Abstract

Inhibitors of H2S corrosion comprises cpds. of formula R2 R1N-R-CN n (I) (where R is 1-6C alkylene and n=1 or 2; when n=1, R1 and R2 are H, 1-20C alkyl, 3-14C alkenyl 1-20C hydroxyalkyl or 5-6C cycloalkyl, or R1 + R2 is (CH2)m (m = 2-10), (CH2)2NH(CH2)2 or (CH2)2O(CH2)2; when n = 2, R1 is H, 1-20C alkyl or 3-14C alkenyl and R2 is (CH2)k (k = 2-10) or (CH2)2NH(CH2)2. Cpds. (I) protect ferrous metals (esp. equipment used in the oil and gas industries) from corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement in media contg. H2S and CO2, and also act as foam inhibitors, e.g. preventing foaming in absorptive desulphurisation units.
