Abstract

The tubular casing designed to contain a mandrel key between uses, may be mounted on an electric lathe and be built into the electric control circuit, constituting a safety mechanism in so far as the presence of the key in the casing is a pre-requisite to lathe operation. The arrangement ensures that the machine can not be started with the key still attached to the mandrel, the base of the casing incorporating a micro contact which closes the lathe circuit under the weight of the key. The system may also be used on drills with key operated mandrels.
