Abstract

Spent fuel elements are stored in water-filled ponds, use being made of storage racks having permanently installed neutron absorbers. In order to simplify the production of these storage racks and to avoid stressed states, the walls of the shafts (1) are formed by sheets (2) of neutron-absorbing material, which are arranged crosswise one above another and are provided with incisions (4) at their edges (3). In the case of a parallel arrangement of the sheets (2), clearances (5) are formed between the shafts (1), which contribute to ensuring subcriticality and improve the cooling effect of the surrounding water.
