Abstract

The multiple circuit connection is esp. for use in safety circuits employed where there may be explosive or inflammable gasses, as in mining and the petro-chemical industries. Connection is of two basic circuit types, one intrinsically safe, with and without electrical isolation, the other having no intrinsic safety. Operation can be manual or automatic. The connection system allows either safety circuit to be replaced as a unit without recabling. Connection is made at a console carrying sets of sockets allowing interconnection of switch gear and monitoring circuits via a unique cable form or equivalent conductors in the form of a printed circuit. The cable form or PCB leads to a safety barrier module protecting the sockets of the intrinsically safe circuits.
