Abstract

L'invention concerne une boîte de direction du type à crémaillère et pignon. Selon l'invention, le pignon comprend des première et seconde parties 7 et 7' separément rotatives et ayant des dents d'engrenage en spirale 6 et 6' inverses; la première partie est connectée au volant et la seconde partie est en prise avec la crémaillère 5; un moyen produisant un rapport de direction variable comprend un manchon variable 12 supporté rotatif et axialement coulissant dans le carter 2, ayant un engrenage interne en spirale 14, 14' eh prise avec la première partie de pignon et connecté à la seconde partie afin de transmettre l'effet de changement de direction à cette seconde partie, et un moyen produisant un mouvement en spirale du manchon variable 12 a une gorge de guidage 15 d'un angle d'avance variable et une cheville 16 en engagement avec cette gorge. L'invention s'applique notamment à l'industrie automobile.
