Abstract

Dissolved Fe is removed frm aq. Al(NO3)3 soln. of pH 0-0.8 and contg. 10-100g/l Al by contact with 0.5-5 vols. immiscible organic phase contg. 0.05-0.5M di-2- ethyldexyl-phosphoric acid for 1-10 mins. K may then be sepd. by converting Fe free soln. to oxides calcining for 10-90 mins. at <880 degrees C and leaching out K. The process is used in exploitation of micaceous ores, and 62-100% Fe removed for loss of 0-2.2% Al into organic phase.
