Abstract

An optical fibre cable is terminated by compressing inwards the deformable member (1) to secure the cable in the passage. The compression operation is carried out by using a rim (7) which consists of a material having form-retaining and size-retaining properties. The rim surrounds the deformable member and endeavours to return to its original form and size. In so doing, it exerts a compressive force on the member which is deformed inwardly under this force.
