Abstract

Silicone rubber is used as the sole material for making partial or complete external prostheses, e.g. to replace part of a foot. The material is readily shaped, elastic, inert, can be tinted to a flesh colour, and readily disengaged from a moulding tool or a cast model. Pref. the moulding has an integral skin, opt. includes pores or passages to ventilate the interface between the moulding and the supporting stump.
