Abstract
Chromatographic materials capable of reversibly fixing biologically active macromolecules comprise a porous mineral support coated with an opt. modified, opt. crosslinked polysaccharide to which a chromatographically reactive amine is coupled. Coupling is effected by oxidative cleavage of the polysaccharide followed by reaction with the amine followed by redn. of the amine linkage to an amine linkage of formula R3-CH2-NH-R' (where R'NH is the residue of an amine molecule or macromolecule of formula R'NH2, and R3CH2- is the residue of the polysaccharide after oxidn. and redn.) The materials can be used for isolating or purifying enzymes, hormones, proteins, viruses, bacteria, antigens (esp. cholera toxin) or antibodies.
