Abstract

The device secures an optical fibre within a profiled outer surface metal sheath without altering the fibre's optical characteristics. The silcon glass fibre (11) has a thin optical plastics layer (10) itself protected by a comparatively thick plastics cover (12). The fibre is trapped within the tube (14) by comparatively sharp annular rings or threading (16) on a short section of its inner surface, the threading penetrating the outer protective cover. The fibre insertion can be assisted by a twin jawed two-part tube having an internal hexagonal cross-section.
