Abstract

A fluid permeable, rigid abrasive disc comprises a core made of an aerated, tridimensional, elastic web of pieces of filaments of which at least some are non-linear, the filaments being intertwined and bonded at several mutual contact points by a first binder (I). The web contains in one surface a thin layer of globules of a second binder (II) filled with abrasive particles, the globules being attached randomly but homogenously on the filaments. Improvement is that the disc having on its other surface and to a limited depth an open pore layer of a third rigid binder (III) coating the filaments. The disc can adapt itself to workpieces of different shapes but is sufficiently rigid to be used directly on a sanding machine without it being necessary to bond its reverse side over the entire surface. It has good wear resistance and can be washed with a hot water jet to remove agglomerated metal particles or kept immersed in solvents which do not dissolve its constituents.
