Abstract

When large cranes are used close to each other there is a danger of the boom of one crane striking the ropes carrying the load of the other crane. A system for giving a warning of an impending collision consists of running a length of bare wire (13) supported on insulators (14) along the side of the boom (4) of the lower crane (2). The crane (1) with the higher boom (5) has four wires suspended from the boom (5) and attached to rods which project radially from the puley block. If the wire (13) touches any of the wires (19-22) an electric circuit is closed and emits a warning signal.
