Abstract

The coolant supply system, for a rotating machine's superconducting excitation winding, has a needle (7) inside a rotating chamber (6) lying along the machine's axis and facing the incoming coolant. The rotating chamber is connected via two or more coolant channels (8) to the machine's cavity in which the superconducting winding (1) is located. The channels follow helical paths. The advantage of the needle lies in its reducing the relative velocity between the incoming coolant and the surfaces of the rotating chamber.
