Abstract

The switch has thermal-expansion material (14) filling a well in its base and acting on a metal membrane (16) that seals the well. Changes in temp. cause the material to expand (or contract) and move the membrane so that a contract (35) on its outside makes (or breaks) with a fixed contact (38). The membrane has concentric steps making it concave on its outer face and convex on the face on contact with the expansion material. The periphery of the membrane is sandwiched between the top of the well and the bottom of the piece that closes the base. The electrically conducting base (10) of the switch forms an external contact.
