Abstract

A woven fabric for overcoats, has a rough surface on the right side, and a smooth surface on the underside, so that garments may be made without linings, but with an attractive appearance. A water-repellant finish may be applied, which preferably does not affect the air permeability of the garment. The under side of the garment presents floats of raised, woollen weft, and the inner side of the garment provides floats of a synthetic yarn warp, which may be (transfer) printed with a design or pattern. The fabric of the invention provides over-garments which are both warm and cool, water-repellent and air permeable, and comfortable to wear both in winter and summer. The garments hang well, and have no need for a separate lining.
