Abstract

A crane has transverse beams (2) in which support beams (4, 5) are retracted for transport and extended to support the crane when working. Support feet (10, 11) are lowered and raised by hydraulic jacks (6, 7). When beams (4, 5) are extended and before feet (10, 11) contact the ground the inner ends of the beams are slightly upwardly inclined due to clearances. When the feet take the weight they are inclined downwardly. In this position an emitter and a receiver are aligned to give a signal indicating the feet are taking the weight of the vehicle.
