Abstract

The helicopter is used for fighting forest fires and is equipped with two sets of large diameter rotor blades. On each side of the fuselage is a large capacity water tank, four in all, situated directly underneath the rotor axes. These tanks are filled using pumps fitted on board, these same pumps being used to discharge their contents over a fire. The air flow from each rotor breaks up each discharge into a fine mist, this being directed downwards by the air flow onto the flames and adjacent vegetation.
