Abstract

A pump circuit for a pressurised fluid comprises two mechanical pumps connected in parallel. Downstream of the two pumps there is a single hydraulic non-return valve contg. transition pipes, each connected to one pump outlet, and a common collector pipe; this collector pipe follows the transition pipes and has a converging-diverging profile. Used for the pump circuit of the coolant of nuclear reactors. In case of the mechanical failure of one pump, resulting in the pump suddenly stopping, the static pressure of the fluid upstream of the pumps can be so controlled that it is virtually the same as that at the construction of the nozzle; this prevents or hinders reversal of the normal flow direction.
