Abstract

A telescopic spring-loaded member is used to replace a rung of a tubular metal section ladder, having a retracted length less than the spacing between the stringers (8). The replacement rung may comprise a sleeve (6) of which the opposite ends accommodate a rivetted (7) spigot (2) and a slide (3). The spigot and the slide have the same cross section as the old rung both being partially housed in the sleeve, and the slide being capable of complete retraction against the spring (11). Assembly entails retracting the slide and inserting the spigot into a stringer hole, the slide then being released to enter a hole (10) in the opposite stringer. The slide is finally rivetted to the sleeve to complete the operation.
