Abstract

L'invention décrit un procédé de traitement du résidu de la déshydratation de l'alcool alpha-méthylbenzylique pour en extraire des composés monomères. On soumet le résidu de la déshydratation catalytique de l'alcool alpha-méthylbenzylique à une distillation fractionnée en deux étapes, dans des conditions différentes de température et de temps. On peut ainsi extraire du styrène et des précurseurs du styrène. Par co- et homo-polymérisation, le styrène donne d'utiles matières plastiques et élastomères.The invention describes a process for treating the residue from the dehydration of alpha-methylbenzyl alcohol to extract monomeric compounds therefrom. The residue from the catalytic dehydration of alpha-methylbenzyl alcohol is subjected to fractional distillation in two stages, under different conditions of temperature and time. It is thus possible to extract styrene and styrene precursors. On co- and homopolymerization, styrene gives useful plastics and elastomers.
