Abstract
An article is caoted with a layer of metal contg. particles by placing the article and the particles in a drum, at least part of the wall of which is impermeable to the particles but permeable to coating soln., placing the drum in a bath of the soln. which does not contain particles, and then rotating the drum about a horizontal or inclined axis. The method is used for electrodeposition or electroless deposition of metal coatings contg. metal, cermet or esp. ceramic particles to improve the wear resistance, abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, coefft. of friction and anti-sieze properties of substrates. The method can also be used in electroforming. Only a small quantity of particles is required to obtain a high content of particles in the deposit. This is esp. useful when heavy particles e.g. of diamonds are used.
