Abstract

Clamping mechanisms for locking the mobile platen of an injection moulding machine in the closed position comprise use of coaxial hydraulic rams to contract radial wedges against either the body of a traverse ram integral with the mobile platen or against each of the tie bard upon which the platens are carried. The traverse ram passes through a supplementary static platen which supports opposing annular hydraulic rams for engaging convergeant annular sets of wedges. As the grip is released, a spacer ensures that the inner wedges are parted during axial retraction of the outer wedges. The clamps may comprise groups of individual wedges or a hollow conic sleeve of variable dia. because of the meshed pattern of partial longitudinal.
