Abstract

A rib pattern for off-the-road tyres comprises a series of separate transverse ribs having a sinusoidal form with the nodes symmetrically offset w.r.t. the circumferential axis. The oblique zones of the sinusoidal profile are aligned at 5-30 degrees to the transverse axis. Pref. the amplitude of the profile and the distance between the ribs are such that pseudo-continuous contact is maintained between the tread crowns and the road surface. Opt. isolated tread pillars may be located between the ribs to maintain contact continuity. The rib surface may be interrupted. The performance of the tread pattern combines little tendancy to clogging on soft surfaces with good directional stability on hard surface.
