Abstract

The absorber uses water as a heat transfer medium and, except in hot climates, winter causes freezing of the water with consequent damage to the absorber, e.g. bursting. The invention eliminates this problem by including compressible objects in the aborber. The pref. absorber has the shape of a ladder using two long collector tubes(a) joined by tubes(b) of smaller dia. forming the 'rungs'. Both types of tube(a,b) contain a strip, roll, or 'sausage' of foamed cellular material which contracts when water expands on freezing.
