Abstract

A syringe in which the length of a complete delivery stroke of the piston is greater than the max. possible forward displacement of the actuating plunger is claimed. This is achieved by using a telescopic piston rod between piston and plunger. The telescopic rod comprises several coaxial tubular elements in an outer sleeve. Pref. the rod is first fully collapsed and its max. forward movement displaces the piston by only half its full stroke. The rod is then extended telescopically to twice its original length so that the actuating plunger is back where it started. The rod automatically locks in this arrangements so that a second full movement of the plunger displaces the piston over the second half of its full stroke. Used as manual syringe, partic. for dentists because of its facility in injecting into ligaments and bones. The piston can have a long delivery stroke with a small dia. cylinder so that actuating force is low. Despite the long piston stroke, the displacement of the actuating plunger is not so long as to be difficult to accommodate or to manipulate with one hand.
