Abstract

Corrosion inhibiting compsn. for ferrous metals and alloys in contact with acid-gas stripping absorbent solns. comprises (a) a source of copper ion, which is copper, copper sulphide or a copper salt, and (b) a source of sulphur atoms, which is (1) sulphur, or (2) H2S and/or COS in combination with an oxidizing agent, which, under the conditions of acid-gas stripping and regeneration of the stripping absorbent, yield sulphur atoms. in soln. at least some of which are present as polysulphide. (a) and (b) are in soln. in the absorbent soln. The absorbent soln. in an alkanolamine of formula (I) where R1 and R2 are each H or -C(R3)2C (R3)2-OH and R3 is H or 1-3C alkyl, in aq. or glycol soln. Used partic. in removing CO2 and H2S from natural and synthetic gases. The corrosion inhibitor allows higher loading of the plant.
