Abstract

The post-hole auger is rotated by hand and utilises water jets to aid hole formation. The tool comprises a vertical tube (8) with four radial flanges (10) above a conical tip (12). The flanges taper down at the tip and occupy the lower half of the tube. The tip has a central hole and four axially elongated slots (11). The head of the tube receives a 'T' piece with the arms constituting a water inlet (1) and a hand lever (6, 7) respectively. The inlet arm may be connected to a high pressure water feed and may incorporate a lever (21) operated autoclosing valve (2). The number and geometry of the outlet holes (11) may be varied according to the nature of the subsoil.
