Abstract
The rigid panel is made of a stable refrctory which conducts heat, but does not conduct electricity. The refractory has high density, high specific heat, and a negligible coefft. of thermal expansion. Inside the panel is at least one flat zigzag metal strip, the width of the strip being several times its thickness. More than one flat zigzag may be used in one or more planes parallel with the large surfaces of the panel. The panel may have undulating surfaces and/or a protective coating. The panel is pref. made by placing a moist mixt. of refractory and binder in a die, then the zigzag strip(s), followed by another layer of the mixt. and applying 150-500 bars to make a biscuit which is removed from the die, dried, and baked 48-72 h. at 1000-1300 degrees C. The panels can be made by non-skilled personnel, and have high heat yield plus long life.
