Abstract

Digital data communication is carried out by multiplexing several channels onto a single transmission channel. A modem is employed and automatically reacts to control signals to select a particular channel configuration. A modem contains a circuit to multiplex several channels into a number of configurations in response to control signals. A detector automatically senses the control signals and compares the configuration required with the present shape to produce error signals which activate switches to achieve the required channel arrangement. The control signal data is coded and a particular code representing the present arrangement is stored. The control signal for a new configuration replaces this stored data as a comparison circuit determines the differences. A comparator receiving the signals produces a common format.
