Abstract

Storage frame for fuel elements of polygonal cross-section is intended esp. for light water reactor elements and comprises casings each surrounding one fuel element with small clearance. Each casing is faced with a number of adjoining strips of neutron-absorbing material, such as boron steel or other non metallic B-contg. materials. These strips are detachably mounted. Pref. the neutron-absorbing strips are fitted inside the casing and have joggleg joints at their edges. Alternatively the absorber strips are outside the casing and are held in position by clamps. The absorber materials can be removed and replaced if corroded and to suit different conditions.
