Abstract

The foam core of the mattress is designed as a stronger foam mat (10). It has transverse channels (11, 12) worked in symmetrically in the top and bottom surface so as to divide the core mat alternately strong support sections (17) and articulated sections (24). The mattress still retains its longitudinal flexibility and transverse stiffness whilst the inherent elasticity of the articulated areas prevents a permanent displacement of the support sections so that no empty spaces arise as in the case of known foam-filled mattresses. The one-piece core of the mattress is foamed in one step or cut out of a thicker foam block with the channels being formed at the same time.
