Abstract

The connection links two light conducting cables, each composed of a number of optical fibres lying side by side, for example in a flat cable. Each fibre has trapezoidal locating ridges along its length. An intermediate piece is used having a flat or cylindrical section on which the cable lies. It has a profile corresponding to the protrusions of the fibres. This intermediate piece centres the fibres to ensure their correct alignment. A gripping piece is then fastened down on to the cables, one ridge of this piece holding each of the fibres in place.
