Abstract

A pair of sprocket sectors (35, 36) each having one or more sprocket wheel halves are respectively movable on a rotatable support. They are movable from a position where same diameter halves are in the same plane to form a full sprocket to a position where some teeth of one half move to align with teeth of a different diameter half or an associated different diameter full sprocket (34). This movement causes a bicycle chain (21) to transfer from one diameter sprocket to another whilst retaining driving engagement throughout. Each sector is pivoted at one end on the support about a pin (39a) common to both so that their remote ends move axially for gear changing in either diameter direction.
