Abstract

L'invention permet l'<< audition >> sans intervention de l'oreille. On fait transmettre des signaux électriques représentatifs de sons par une porteuse à fréquence de préférence comprise entre 15 et 60 kHz, entre une électrode maintenue contre la tête du sujet et le centre auditif du cortex cérébral, ainsi qu'éventuellement le nerf auditif, à l'aide d'un appareil dit d'<< audition corticale >>. On améliore l'efficacité en donnant aux signaux basse fréquence une distorsion notable, portant notamment sur les harmoniques de rang faible des fréquences acoustiques. Cette distorsion se substitue à celle qui intervient ordinairement dans l'oreille, mais est négligée dans le processus d'audition. Application : prothèses auditives.
