Abstract

Sub-tread reinforcement for a radial pyl tyre involves one layer of coarse bandage with simple borders and two layers of finer bandage, one of which has simple borders and the other of which has borders which are folded to enclose the borders of one or both of the other layers. The ply axes of the light bandages are closely aligned (within plus-or-minus 5 degrees) and offset from the circumferential axis to the ply axis of the coarse layer. The strength of the ply systems of opposing hands are balanced w.r.t. their tension in the longitudinal (circumferential) direction. Used esp. for reinforcement of tyres for low speed, heavy load use, to combine the stiffness and the resistance to penetration of a coarse bandage with the resistance to peripheral delamination of relatively flexible bandages.
