Abstract
The shrinkage bonded enamelled IC engine exhaust silencer casing comprises two identical halves and an external sleeve. All are enamelled separately. For assembly, the sleeve is heated to enamel softening temp. at which it has expanded just enough for the (cold) casing halves to be slid in. Raised radial corrugations(4) on the casing halves ensure equal depth of entry into the sleeve. Reinforcing discs(5) in the casing-half open ends, inserted after the silencing material, prevent distortion and ensure even sealing pressure.
