Abstract

The compsn. comprises 0.1-4, pref. 0.2-2 wt.% of each of (a) a hydroxy-2alkoxy-4 benzophenone or a (hydroxy-2'alkylphenyl-5')-2-benzotriazole, in which the alkoxy and alkyl substits. contain 1-12C; and (b) (where R1 is 1-20C, pref. 6-20C alkyl or alkenyl, R2 is 1-8C alkyl; and R3 is 3-8C alkyl joined by an alpha C atom, R2 and R3 being pref. t-butyl) incorporated in a polyolefin (including an ethylene/propylene copolymer). Pref. compsns. comprises polypropylene contg. (i) 0.25 wt.% hydroxy-2 n-octyloxy-4 benzophenone and 0.25 wt.% n-hexadecyl di-t-butyl-3,5-hydroxy-4-benzoate; and (ii) 0.25 wt.% (hydroxy-2't-octyl-phenyl-5')-2 benzotriazole and 0.25 wt.% n-hexadecyl di-t-butyl-3,5 hydroxy-4-benzoate. The additives efficiently stabilise polyolefin against light degradation caused by the sun or other UV sources. The prod. is partic. useful in film form, but may also be in fibre form.
