Abstract

La présente invention concerne la polymérisation d'oléfines. Il s'agit d'un procédé de polymérisation de 1-alcène ayant de 2 à 8 atomes de carbone avec éventuellement des quantités secondaires, de 10 % en moles au maximum, d'un ou plusieurs autres 1-alcènes ayant de 2 à 8 atomes de carbone, en particulier l'éthylène, si on le désire, avec au maximum 2 % en moles de propylène, et/ou de butylène, en présence d'un catalyseur que l'on obtient en faisant réagir un composé chromo-1,3-dicéto de formule Cr(OCR1 CR2 CR3 O)3 , où R1 , R2 et R3 sont semblables ou différents et représentent chacun un groupe alcoyle ayant de 1 à 10 atomes de carbone, cependant que R2 peut en outre représenter un atome d'hydrogène, avec un composé organo-métallique d'un métal du groupe II ou III de la classification périodique des éléments, dans lequel les groupes hydrocarbonés ayant de 1 à 20 atomes de carbone sont liés par l'intermédiaire d'un atome de carbone au métal concerné, puis en mettant en contact ce produit réactionnel avec un support inorganique inerte, en chauffant le produit réactionnel du composé chromé précipité sur le support dans une atmosphère non-réductrice à une température comprise entre 200 degrés C et 1 200 degrés C et enfin en joignant le produit obtenu de cette manière à un composé organo-métallique d'un élément du groupe II ou III de la classification périodique des éléments, caractérisé en ce que l'on utilise comme support de catalyseur un dioxyde de silicium ayant un volume de pores d'au moins 1,5 cm**3/g et un contenu en sodium d'au plus 200 ppm.
