Abstract

A cage for a ball bearing is made from resilient plastics in the shape of a ring which fits between the inner and outer races. The ring (7) has a number of spherical pockets (6) to receive the balls (2). The wall (5) between adjacent pockets is split into t3o tongues (5a, 5b) separated by a V-shaped groove (11). The tongues (5a, 5b) normally conform to the shape of the ball but are sufficiently flexible to allow a ball (2) to be inserted into each pocket (6). This design of cage allows closer spacing of the balls and so increase the load capacity of the bearing.
