Abstract
Oxidn. catalysts for oxidising 3-6C olefins to the corresp. unsatd. aldehydes, esp. for oxidising propylene and isobutylene to acrolein and methacrolein, contains oxides of Co, Fe, Bi, Mo and K in an atomic ratio Co4.5-7.0Fe1-2Bi1-2Mo15K0.05-0.2. The catalysts give very high (70-90%) conversion of the olefin with high selectivity (85-95%) to the prodn. of the desired unsatd. olefin. Use of the remaining oxidn. prods. (mainly (meth)acrylic acid, CO and CO2) in a recycle stream as a diluent for the oxygen improves the conversion of propylene to about 99% and the selectivity to acrolein to up to 97%.
