Abstract

The sensor is esp. useful for measuring the thickness of a fillet weld in an internal joint which would be inaccessible by other methods of measurement. A movable sensor (13) is placed on the bead to be measured, and a gas jet from a fixed nozzle is directed on the sensor. Dynamic pressure or another characteristic gas flow variable is measured, and compared the value previously obtained without the bead. Difference between the distance from the sensor to the top of the bead and to the surface without bead is derived from these measurements.
