Abstract
When the gearbox is in a high speed setting the low speed gear is disengaged from its shaft to aid synchronous action. The high speed gear is mounted on its shaft by rings or rollers and can be locked by dogs or splines. The low speed parts of the gearbox can also be freed by one or more dogs. The dogs are also arranged to act as preselectors.
