Abstract

Solar energy traps comprising 'V' section troughs with heat transfer fluid circulating through a passage in a small compartment along the root of the trough are fitted along the mouth of the trough with a cover hving a stepped surface profile for guiding incident heat from various directions towards the root of the trough, either directly or via reflecting surfaces on the walls of the trough. The troughs may be a series of transverse corrugations in a base panel supporting a serpentine heat transfer fluid circuit, opt. returning alongside or concentric with and counter to the initial flow pass. Provides more efficient thermal capture than traps with a plane cover.
