Abstract

A multichamber system for pneumatic tyres incorporates an annular chamber made of inextensible material and located against the wheel base and between the carcass beads resting on the wheel rims. This primary chamber is inflated via a conventional valve through the wheel rim and is connected via ancillary valves to one or more secondary chambers which are radially concentric with the primary chamber and fill the main tyre cavity. The ancillary valves incorporate double beaded pistons spring loaded to isolate the primary chamber from the secondary chamber in the event of a sudden positive pressure differential between the primary and secondary chamber; i.e. due to sudden deflation of the latter or by selective inflation of the primary chamber preceded by a sudden pressure pulse. The primary chamber is pref. made of thermoplastic polyester. The primary chamber prevents the tyre beads from converging towards the wheel rim well if the main tyre is depressured, to prevent disengagement of the tyre from the rim.
