Abstract

The land vehicle has a chassis with two or more pairs of wheels, one of the pairs being mounted on an axle slewing about a vertical axis. The axle (7) is slewed by brakes (14) acting on its wheels (6), and controlled mechanisms on the vehicle. Other retracting mechanisms (15-18) hold the axle in a particular angular position in the absence of any braking forcE. The axle can be mounted on a support (8), slewing on a vertical post (9) in the chassis.
