Abstract

The computerised detection system controls the progressively increasing thickness of a fibrous layer during a mfg. process, and may be used in asbestos-cement pipe mfr. The system controls the thickness of primary layers to obviate pipe-wall lamination, and can be used with machines feeding paste to formative rollers, i.e. with a conveyor belt feeding paste between a rotating cylindrical mandrel and a counter roller. The machine also has a radial compactor which acts on the progressively increasingly layer and inc. a sensor monitoring the thickness of the layer. The detection system has two numeric computers and an electronic ferro-sensitive proximity detector. The computers receive impulses from a sensor-controlled rotary differential transducer, and the detector locates a set distance from a paste-free sector of the mandrel's cylindrical surface. The latter sector includes a non-ferrous zone which interrupts the detector during each mandrel rev.
