Abstract

The apparatus for filtering gaseous radioactive substances has a chamber (1) which is subdivided into a top part (1a) and a bottom part (1b) by an essentially horizontal partition (12) and contains a granular filter material (2). An intake chamber (3) is flanged on the side to the bottom chamber part (1b). On the opposite side, the chamber parts (1a, 1b) are connected together by a diversion chamber (5). In addition, an outlet chamber (4) is flanged to the upper chamber part (1a) on the side. The chamber (1) is furnished at the top and bottom with closable nozzles (10, 11) for charging or discharging the filter material (2). The partition (12) is composed of two metal plates (13, 14) arranged one above the other having slots (15). The two metal plates (13, 14), from a position in which the slots (15) do not coincide, can be brought relative to each other into a position in which the slots (15) coincide. In the latter position, the filter material (2) can trickle down from the top chamber part (1a) into the bottom chamber part (1b). As a result, the capacity of the filter material can be better utilised in comparison with known apparatuses.
