Abstract

A tensioner is for overhead power or communications cables, tension being applied without any tendency to put a twist on the cable. The system also avoids exerting too much tension on the cable. The tensioner (2) is approximately rectangular in elevation and plan and has a laminated construction. Attachment to the supporting pole or mast is via a hole (3) at one end, most of the remaining length having shaped equally spaced slots (5) angled towards the support point. Tension is altered manually and hence minimises the risk of overtensioning and is achieved by dropping the cable terminal hook (18) into the required slot. A guard (10), in the form of a stiff wire loop, is included to provide protection against any tendancy for the cable to jump out.
