Abstract

Disc springs are stacked one upon another in order to achieve the required characteristics of load and rate. This stacking is an operation which is difficult to carry out by automatic machines because of the chamfers around the bore on both faces of the disc. This is overcome by moulding a plastic collar (21) into the bore of the stack of washers (111, 112). The collar is formed by injection moulding using high density polyethylene or ABS. The stack of spring discs is held together permanently and so makes it possible to be assembled by automatic machinery. The idea can be applied equally well to any form of stacking of the discs.
