Abstract

The insulated cooler cabinet (1) with a small plan area has a hinged door (2) and internal shelves (7). A refrigerant evaporator (5) at the top of the cabinet forms part of a circuit containing an expansion valve (6), a compressor (3) and a condenser (4). These components are all mounted on the back of the cabinet outside it. The compressor is controlled to give a reduced pressure rise so that the temperature on the surface of the evaporator does not fall below freezing point. This prevents frost formation so that the coller never needs defrosting. It is used for pharmaceuticals, toiletries and foods which do not need very low temperatures for conservation.
